Nato a Venezia il primo agosto 1923, Dino Battaglia esordisce nel
mondo dei fumetti nel 1945 collaborando a l'"Asso di Picche". Negli anni
Cinquanta disegna alcuni episodi del western Pecos Bill su testi di Guido Martina
(prolifico e dotto sceneggiatore) e collabora col "Vittorioso" e con alcune case
editrci inglesi tramite lo Studio Dami. Negli anni Sessanta e Settanta, sempre senza mai
legarsi a presonaggi fissi, collabora al "Corriere dei Piccoli" e a
"Linus", dove ha modo di dare il meglio di sé riducendo a fumetti le atmosfere
angosciose e fantastiche dei racconti di Hoffmann e di Poe, di Lovercraft e di Maupassant.
Per il "Messaggero dei Ragazzi" realizza un'ottima biografia di San Francesco
d'Assisi nel 1974 e nell'anno successivo un eccellente versione a fumetti del Till
Eulenspiegel per "Il Giornalino". Nel 1982 crea l'Ispettore Coke di Scotland
Yrad che, in storie ambientare all'inizio del nostro secolo, si trova impegnato in casi
assai particolari e le cui avventure sono state interrotte dalla sua morte improvvisa
avventua nel 1983.
Born in Venice on August 1st, 1923, Dino Battaglia began his carreer
in the comics world in 1945, collaborating with the authors of "Asso di Picche".
In the fifties, he drew some adventures of the western "Pecos Bill", written by
Guido Martina (scriptwriter learned and prolific), and collaborated with the
"Vittorioso" and with some English publishing houses by means of the
"Studio Dami". In the sixties and the seventies he collaborated with the
"Corriere dei Piccoli" and "Linus", without sticking to one character
in particular. He gave his best adapting the fantastic atmosphere of novels by Hoffman,
Poe, Lovecraft and Maupassant into comics. In 1974 he wrote an excellent biography of
Saint Francis of Assisi fot the "Messaggero dei ragazzi"; the following year he
made a very good comics version of "Till Eulenspiegel" for "Il
Giornalino". In 1982 he created the Inspector "Coke" of Scotland Yard who
faces strange cases in histories set at the beginning of the century. The adventures were
interrupted by the unexpected author's death in 1983.
